Bottom line up front: When does moving from Copilot to Claude make sense?

When your team's heavy AI work is coding or long documents rather than Office files, because Claude Code comes in every Claude Team seat and some models take up to 1M tokens.

You give up Copilot's native grounding in Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, and Claude reaches those tools through connectors instead. Price stops being a reason to stay after December 31, 2026, when Copilot's $18 reverts to $21 and Claude Team at $20 becomes the cheaper seat. You don't have to go all or nothing, though. Copilot Chat stays included with eligible Microsoft 365 plans, so a sensible setup is to drop the paid add-on, keep Chat for everyone, and put Claude seats only where the work justifies them. Run the same real task through both before you cancel, and save your prompts, since nothing imports.
