Bottom line up front: What does moving a site from Squarespace to WordPress actually involve?

A rebuild with a content head start: WordPress's importer can pull in blog content from Squarespace, but there's no full site export, so layouts get recreated by hand in a WordPress theme.

You also take on hosting, security updates and backups, unless you pay for managed hosting or WordPress.com Business at $25/mo annual. The step that protects your traffic is redirects. I've spent enough years in SEO to treat this as the main job: before you touch anything, export a list of every live Squarespace URL, map each one to its new address and switch on permanent redirects at launch, because search engines pass rankings along a redirect and drop pages that simply vanish. After launch, watch for broken links and missing pages for a few weeks. Keep the Squarespace plan until that settles.
