Editorial Standards

HelpCompare is an independent comparison site for business software. These are the rules every page on the site is written, checked and corrected by. The step-by-step research method is on our About page; this page is the short version of what you can hold us to.

Who is accountable

Bill Belcamino writes HelpCompare together with the HelpCompare team and is the author accountable for everything we publish. His background is on the About page.

Where our facts come from

Every price, plan limit, free tier, trial length and contract term is recorded from the vendor’s own pricing page or documentation, carries the date we checked it, and is listed under “Sources” on the page. If a vendor publishes nothing, we write “Not published” instead of estimating. The same records are in our open dataset, each with its source page and verification date.

How AI is used

Research and drafting are assisted by AI tools; every price, plan limit and contract term is then checked by hand on the vendor’s own pricing page and dated before it’s published.

Verified data, editorial assessment and estimates are kept apart

  • Verified data: figures taken from the vendor, with the date checked.
  • Editorial assessment: our judgment on ease of use, depth of features, value and fit, built on the verified data on the same page and labelled as ours.
  • Estimates: the switching-cost estimators run on your inputs and the assumptions printed beside them, not on vendor prices.

No scores of our own, no pay-to-rank

We publish no numeric scores or rankings of our own and do not crown one overall winner. The only star ratings on the site are G2’s, quoted with the date we checked them. HelpCompare does not use affiliate or referral links, and no vendor pays for a link, a placement or a review (see our Affiliate Disclosure).

How often we re-check

Every comparison lists the date it was last checked. We re-verify pricing and feature claims at least once per quarter, and sooner whenever a vendor announces a pricing change.

Mistakes

If you spot an error, tell us. How we handle reports is on our Corrections page.

Every source link, checked monthly

Last check: . All 321 outside links in published pages and in the tools and AI-pricing datasets were checked. 258 work. None had gone dead. 63 are on sites that block automated checks and are waiting for a check by hand.

Sources move and disappear: agencies retire pages and publishers change addresses. When a source dies it is not quietly deleted or left as a broken link. If the same document lives at a new address, the link is updated. If it is gone, the link points to the Internet Archive copy, and the page says so next to the link. Every change is logged here and on Corrections.
