Lovable vs Wix: AI App Builder or Drag-and-Drop Site Builder in 2026?

Lovable writes a real codebase from your prompts and bills by AI credits; Wix hosts a drag-and-drop site for a flat monthly fee. Here is what each costs, who owns what, and what happens if you ever want to leave.

Bottom line up front: Should a small business build its site in Lovable or Wix?

Wix fits a standard brochure site, booking page or small store, and Lovable fits when you need real app features or want to own the code.

Wix Light is $17 a month on an annual plan and doesn't move however much you edit, while Lovable Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits and every chat message spends some, from 0.50 credits for a one-line change. The catch on Wix is permanent: its help center says the site has to run on Wix's servers. The catch on Lovable is quieter. Owning code only helps if someone can look after it, because a codebase needs fixes, updates and a place to run, and a prompt that breaks something costs more credits to undo. So ask who will maintain this site two years from now: if the honest answer is nobody technical, take Wix's flat bill and accept the lock-in with your eyes open.

My read of the verified data on this page, checked against vendor sources on September 27, 2026. Disagree or spot an error? Tell Bill

Heads up: These are different kinds of tools. Lovable is an AI app builder: you describe what you want in chat and it writes the code, and each message spends credits. Wix is a hosted drag-and-drop site builder with a flat monthly plan per site. The calculator prices Lovable by the credits you use; Wix plans do not change with credits.

Is Lovable cheaper than Wix?

For a typical small-business site, Wix. Light is $17 a month and Core $29 on annual plans, flat. Lovable Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits on monthly billing ($250 a year on annual), and heavier building costs more: 400 credits is $100 a month, and 2,000 credits is $480. Lovable’s pricing page shows a one-line edit (“Make the button gray”) at 0.50 credits and a landing page with images at 1.70 credits, so 100 credits goes a long way for small changes. Unused monthly credits roll over while you stay subscribed.

How they actually differ

Wix gives you an editor and hosts the result. Lovable gives you an AI that writes a web app (new projects use TanStack Start with server-side rendering, older ones React and Vite) and hosts it on a lovable.app address or your own domain.

How the bill works

Wix charges a flat plan per site. Lovable charges per workspace by monthly credits: Pro is $25 for 100, $50 for 200, $100 for 400 on monthly billing, and annual billing costs ten months’ worth. Credits are shared by everyone in the workspace, members are unlimited, and top-ups are $15 per 50 credits on Pro. Business costs twice Pro per credit, adds SSO and roles and permissions, and keeps workspace data out of AI model training by default.

Who owns what

Lovable’s FAQ answers “Who owns the code?” with “You as the creator do!” and lets you download the codebase as a zip or sync it to a Git repository, so you can host it anywhere. Wix’s help center says a Wix site “needs to be hosted and operated on Wix’s servers”, importing a site built outside Wix is not supported, and blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms.

Skills you need

Wix is built for people who never want to see code. Lovable also never requires code, but what you get is a codebase: debugging, databases and integrations are things you steer through prompts, and each prompt spends credits.

Lovable

  • Cannot import an existing site or repo
  • More moving parts than a page builder
  • Free plan has no custom domain

Wix

  • Drag-and-drop editor, no code at all
  • Hosting included

Cons

  • Site must stay on Wix servers

What this means for your team

  • Audit reports: Wix states a SOC 2 report on its own site; we found no SOC 2 statement for Lovable. If your security team requires SOC 2, ask Lovable directly before shortlisting.
  • Single sign-on: Lovable includes it on Business; Wix includes it on Enterprise (OpenID Connect only, not SAML). If your team signs in through Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Google, price the plan that includes SSO, not the entry plan.
  • Working offline: Wix needs an internet connection; Lovable doesn’t document an offline mode. Details are in the Offline mode row above.
  • Office-only access: Wix can restrict sign-ins to approved IP ranges on Enterprise. That suits an office network or a company VPN; fully remote teams need a VPN for it to work.
  • Where your data lives: Lovable lets you choose EU, US, Asia Pacific. This matters for teams hiring across the EU, UK or Australia.
  • In the office: Wix: Wix POS Register runs on a POS tablet with card readers (Stripe Reader M2 in the US, WisePad 3 in Canada/UK, Wix POS Go in all three) and Epson receipt printers.

Lovable: worth knowing

  • RemotePlans are per workspace with unlimited members, and everyone in the workspace draws on one shared credit pool. source
  • SecurityWorkspace owners or admins can require SSO for workspace access, with session lengths from 8 hours to 7 days. source
  • SecurityBusiness and Enterprise workspace data is not used to train AI models. source

Wix: worth knowing

  • SecurityOrganization SSO on Wix is OpenID Connect only (not SAML) and requires the Wix Studio enterprise solution or Wix Channels. source
  • SecurityAudit logs, IP allowlisting, SCIM and SSO are enterprise-solution features, not part of standard Wix plans. source
  • OfflineWix POS cannot queue card payments while the Wi-Fi is down, so stores need a fallback payment method during outages. source
