Claude vs Gemini for Teams: Which AI Assistant Fits Your Business in 2026?

Claude Team is a dedicated $20 seat that works alongside any office suite. Gemini for teams is not a separate purchase: it comes bundled inside Google Workspace, from $7 a user a month. Here is what each actually buys you.

Bottom line Editorial assessment

Which is better, Claude or Gemini?

Choose Gemini if your company already runs Google Workspace and wants AI bundled into Gmail and Docs at no extra cost; choose Claude if your team does technical or coding work and wants Claude Code included in every seat. Claude Team is $20/seat/mo; Gemini is bundled from $7/user/mo via Workspace.

Heads up: AI assistants change their plans, prices, models and usage limits almost daily. Everything on this page is accurate as of September 23, 2026, the date we checked each vendor’s pricing page and documentation. Confirm current terms on the vendor’s own site before you buy.

Quick verdict: If your company already runs Google Workspace, Gemini is effectively free: it is bundled into Business Starter ($7/user/mo annual) through Business Plus ($22), with the amount of Gemini scaling by tier — full access to Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet only arrives at Business Standard ($14) and above. Claude Team is a dedicated $20/seat subscription (2-seat minimum) that sits alongside whatever office suite you already use, and leads on coding (Claude Code included in every seat) and long-document analysis (up to a 1M-token context on some models). For a Workspace-native team that mainly needs drafting help inside Docs and Gmail, Gemini is close to free; for a team that wants the strongest coding and analysis assistant regardless of which office suite it runs, Claude is the dedicated purchase worth paying for.

Is Claude cheaper than Gemini?

For a Google Workspace customer, Gemini adds nothing extra to the bill — it is bundled into Business Starter ($7), Standard ($14) and Plus ($22), all billed annually per user. Claude Team costs $20/seat/mo on annual billing ($25 monthly, 2-seat minimum) on top of whatever office suite you already pay for. If you are not on Workspace, the fairer comparison is Claude’s $20 against Workspace Business Standard’s $14, which also includes business email, video meetings and 2TB of pooled storage per user — not just AI.

Editorial assessment

How they actually differ

These are two different kinds of purchase. Claude Team is a dedicated AI seat that works alongside whatever tools you already use. Gemini for teams is a feature of Google Workspace: how much of it you get depends on your Workspace plan, and you cannot buy the office-embedded version without Workspace (Google also sells a separate “Gemini Enterprise” agentic-AI product outside Workspace, with its own, less-published pricing).

How much Gemini each Workspace plan includes

Business Starter gets Gemini in Gmail and basic access to the Gemini app, with a 32K-token context. Business Standard and Plus add Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and Drive, Google’s Pro model with a 1M-token context, and Gems (reusable custom assistants). The jump from Starter to Standard is where Gemini actually becomes an office-wide assistant rather than an email helper.

Where Claude leads

Claude Code ships in every paid Claude seat at no extra charge, sharing the plan’s usage limits — a real advantage for teams doing technical work. Claude also supports up to a 1M-token context on some models, letting it work across long documents or large codebases in a single conversation. Gemini’s Jules coding agent is not currently offered on Workspace business accounts, only personal plans.

Data controls and memory

Workspace admins can switch off Gemini conversation history, auto-delete it on a schedule, and (on Business Plus) retain and export it via Vault. Anthropic states Claude does not train on Team/Enterprise conversation data by default. Neither vendor’s consumer-style memory or chat-history import features extend to business/Workspace accounts.

Claude

Pros

  • Claude Code included in every paid seat
  • Up to a 1M-token context on some models

  • Predictable per-seat pricing, no bundled tiers to parse

Cons

  • A second subscription on top of whatever office suite you use
  • 2-seat minimum on Team
  • No office apps of its own — nothing embedded in Docs/Sheets equivalents
  • No published free-plan business tier beyond individual Free

Gemini

Pros

  • Included in Google Workspace at no extra cost
  • Built into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and Drive
  • Admin auto-delete and Vault retention controls
  • 14-day Workspace trial

Cons

  • Starter gets only basic Gemini access and a 32K context
  • No Jules coding agent on Workspace accounts
  • Full office-app AI requires upgrading to Standard or Plus
  • Cannot buy the Workspace-embedded version without Workspace itself

Claude

Buy Claude if:
