Switching from Zoho Workplace to Google Workspace

Google’s data import tool copies email from Zoho over IMAP. Contacts and calendars must be exported and imported separately, and Zoho’s free plan has no IMAP.

Quick verdict: If you are on Zoho’s Forever Free plan, upgrade to a paid plan first, because the free plan has no IMAP. Then set up Workspace, use the Admin console data import tool to copy email from Zoho over IMAP, export contacts and calendars from Zoho and import them into Google, and move WorkDrive files. Switch MX records last.

    Larger meetings

Meet for up to 500 participants on Business Plus.

    How the migration actually works

Upgrade off Zoho’s free plan before you start: it does not include IMAP.

    StepWhat you do
1Enable IMAP on ZohoZoho’s Forever Free plan has no IMAP, POP or ActiveSync; move to a paid plan for the migration.
2Prepare Google WorkspaceSign up, verify your domain and create users.
3Import email over IMAPIn the Admin console data import tool, choose an IMAP source; Google names Zoho among supported providers.
4Move contacts, calendars and filesExport contacts and calendars from Zoho and import them into Google; download WorkDrive files and upload to Drive.
5Switch your domain’s mail recordsWhen the copy is complete, point your domain’s MX records at the new provider and add its SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Run a final incremental sync afterwards to catch mail that arrived during the change.
6Cancel ZohoExport mailboxes as ZIP or PST from Zoho’s admin console as an archive first.

What this path doesn’t do for you:

Only email moves through Google’s import from Zoho; contacts, calendars and files are manual. Zoho Vault passwords, Cliq chats and intranet content need separate handling.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can Google import from Zoho?

Email only, over IMAP; Google’s documentation names Zoho among supported IMAP providers.

Why can’t I migrate from Zoho’s free plan?

The free plan does not include IMAP, POP or ActiveSync, which the import needs.

    Will it cost more?

Yes: Google Starter is $7 a user a month on annual billing, against $3 for Zoho Workplace Standard.

How long does an email migration take?

It depends on mailbox sizes and the number of users; run a pilot with a few mailboxes first and schedule the MX switch for a quiet period.
