Bottom line up front: Should a team on Microsoft Teams Essentials move to Google Workspace for Meet?

Move if you want the office suite: Business Starter at $7/user/mo adds Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Slides plus 30GB pooled per user, against 10GB on Teams Essentials at $4.

What you give up is recording, since the transcripts and captions Teams Essentials included need Business Standard at $14/user/mo on Google. There's no Teams importer, and chat and meeting history stay with Microsoft. Chat is the part I'd treat carefully. For many small teams the Teams chat is where decisions, files and client context actually live, so export the channels that matter before cancelling and agree in advance where group conversations happen next, or they'll scatter across email and text messages. Ask who relies on transcripts for their notes before deciding Business Starter is enough.
