Editorial assessment

Bottom line up front: What should I do if a tool I pay for was shut down, sold or renamed?

Check the date first, then pull a full export of your data while the vendor still answers support tickets.

Eleven of the 34 changes on this list are acquisitions, and a new owner usually honors the contract you signed, then reprices at renewal. I've cancelled more SaaS contracts than I can count, so read the renewal clause and the notice period before that date sneaks up on you. A rename is a good moment to check your plan against the new lineup. If you know of a shutdown or sale we've missed, send us the announcement and we'll verify it.

If a tool you pay for is on this list

  1. Export your data now, not at the deadlineShutdown dates are when the lights go off, not when exports stop being easy. Pull a full export while support still answers.
  2. Read the renewal clause after an acquisitionA new owner usually honors the contract you signed, then reprices at renewal. Check the date and the notice period.
  3. Treat a rename as a pricing checkRenames often come with new plans. Compare your old plan with the new lineup on the Software Index.
  4. Price the move before you need itThe migration guides and the switching cost calculator show what moving really costs.

How do you decide what goes on this list?

A product is listed when it was shut down, sold, renamed or folded into another product and we can confirm it on a primary source: the company’s own announcement, help page or filing, or a major news report when no primary exists. Each row links that source and the date we checked it. Rumors and unclosed deals stay off until they are confirmed.

Can I use this data?

Yes. The tracker is free to reuse under CC BY 4.0: credit HelpCompare and link to this page. It is also available as CSV and JSON.
