Bottom line up front: Why shouldn't a business team run on Dropbox's $9.99 plan?

Because the $9.99/mo you'll see first is Dropbox Plus, a personal plan for 1 person billed yearly, and company files on a personal account belong, in practice, to whoever holds the login.

Audit logs, SCIM, a HIPAA BAA and data residency start at Standard / Business, SSO needs Advanced / Business Plus, and the free plan is 2 GB (Dropbox Basic). The personal-account habit is how small companies lose files. Someone starts a shared folder on their own Plus account, the team builds on it for a year, and when that person leaves, the company has no admin rights, no audit trail and no way to wipe their laptop. Even on team plans, remote wipe clears linked computers, while phones and tablets just get signed out. Move shared work into a team account before you hire the next person, and make the company, not an employee, the owner of every top-level folder.
