Switching from Notion to Airtable

Airtable has no Notion importer. Export the Notion database as CSV and import it into Airtable as a new table (100MB limit), then rebuild relations as linked-record fields.

Quick verdict: Move to Airtable if your Notion databases have outgrown the page they live in: you need linked records at scale, interfaces other teams use, sync between bases, or viewer-free billing.

Most buyers only budget for the new subscription. This estimates the hidden labor, data-cleanup, and retraining cost of actually making the switch.

Estimate assumes: 1 hour of data-mapping/cleaning labor per 2,000 records, a blended $75/hr ops rate, tiered migration & cleaning tooling fees, and 4 hours of retraining per seat at a $45/hr fully-loaded rate.

Why teams move from Notion to Airtable

    Database depth

Linked records, 50,000 records per base and 25,000 automation runs a month on Team.

    Viewers are free

    Only editors are billed.

    Interfaces and sync

Turn a base into an app and sync across bases.

    How the migration actually works

Team costs $20 a seat against Plus at $10; Notion pages, wikis and docs have no Airtable equivalent; SAML SSO starts at Business ($45).

    StepWhat you do
1Export from NotionOpen the database page, click the three-dot menu, Export, and choose Markdown and CSV; full-page databases export as CSV with a Markdown file per subpage.
2Set up your Airtable workspaceCreate the workspace and add people as editors only if they will change records; viewers and commenters are free.
3Import CSV into AirtableOn the home screen click Import, choose CSV (100MB limit), then check field types in the preview before importing.
4Rebuild links, interfaces and automationsRecreate linked-record fields between tables, then interfaces and automations; check the Team plan’s 50,000-record and 25,000-run limits.
5Reset sharing and permissionsRe-invite your team and set workspace, base or sheet-level permissions; none of this carries over.
6Cancel the old planOnce your team is working day-to-day in the new tool, cancel the old subscription.

What this path doesn’t do for you:

Database rows travel by CSV; Notion pages, wikis, subpages and relations do not, so plan to keep long-form documents elsewhere and rebuild relations as linked-record fields.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Does Airtable import Notion?

Only by CSV: export the Notion database as CSV (Settings, Export, Markdown and CSV), then Import, CSV on the Airtable home screen.

    Will it cost more?

Per editor, yes: Team is $20/seat/mo against Plus at $10/member/mo. Airtable does not bill viewers, which can flip the result for read-heavy teams.

What happens to my Notion pages?

They do not import into Airtable. Keep long-form documents in a docs tool and move only the structured tables.

Do links, formulas and views survive the move?

Expect to rebuild them. CSV carries rows and columns; links between tables, formulas, automations, views and permissions are recreated in the new tool by hand.
