Toggl Track vs Harvest: Which Time Tracker Fits Your Team in 2026?

Bottom line Editorial assessment

Which is better for billing clients, Toggl Track or Harvest?

Choose Harvest if you invoice clients from tracked time and want Stripe, QuickBooks, Xero or Gusto connected, and can get a usage quote; choose Toggl if you want a published price with no usage charges, planning tools and SSO on Premium. Both start at $9 a seat a month on annual billing, but Harvest adds unpublished usage charges on Flex billing.

Heads up: Toggl now sells Toggl Track inside its unified Toggl plans (time tracking plus planning). Prices here are the ones new customers see on toggl.com/pricing, checked September 19, 2026. Existing Toggl Track accounts keep their current plans.

Quick verdict: On the headline, these are level: Toggl Starter and Harvest Teams both start at $9 a seat a month on annual billing. The difference is what sits behind that number. Harvest now bills Teams and Enterprise either as “Flex” (seats plus usage charges for active projects, clients, tasks and invoicing above a free allowance) or “Unlimited” (a fixed usage fee), and publishes neither the usage rates nor the Unlimited price, so its $9 is a floor. Harvest builds invoicing, expenses and QuickBooks, Xero, Stripe and Gusto connections into its paid plans. Toggl’s price is the full price, its free plan covers 3 users against Harvest’s 1, and its plans add planning and capacity tools.

Editorial assessment

How they actually differ

Toggl is a time tracker that has grown into planning and capacity. Harvest is time tracking plus invoicing and expenses, built for agencies and consultancies that bill clients by the hour.

What the $9 buys

Harvest bills Teams and Enterprise either as “Flex”, a per-seat rate plus usage-based charges for active projects, clients, tasks and invoicing above a free allowance, or as “Unlimited” with a fixed usage fee. Harvest does not publish the usage rates, the free allowances or the Unlimited price, so its per-seat prices are a floor, not a total.

Toggl publishes a per-user price with no usage charges: $9 or $16 a user a month on annual billing, or $12 and $24 monthly.

Invoicing and accounting

Harvest turns tracked time and expenses into invoices on every plan, takes card payments through Stripe, and syncs with QuickBooks Online and Xero on Teams and up; it also pushes hours to Gusto payroll. Toggl’s plans page lists billable rates, labor costs and profitability reports, but not invoicing.

Control and security

Toggl includes single sign-on and timesheet approvals on Premium. Harvest keeps SAML SSO and approvals for Enterprise, says it does not offer SCIM, and stores data in the US only.

Toggl Track

Pros

  • Price published in full, with no usage charges

Harvest

  • 30-day trial without a card

Cons

  • Usage charges on Flex billing are not published
  • Free plan is 1 seat and 2 projects
  • Approvals and SSO need Enterprise
  • No SCIM; US-only data storage

List prices checked September 19, 2026. Harvest’s seat prices are “starting from” rates: Flex billing adds usage charges for projects, clients, tasks and invoicing above a free allowance, and Harvest does not publish those rates, so the Harvest figure is a minimum. Taxes are not included.

What this means for your team

  • Audit reports: Toggl Track states a SOC 2 report on its own site; we found no SOC 2 statement for Harvest. If your security team requires SOC 2, ask Harvest directly before shortlisting.
  • Single sign-on: Toggl Track includes it on Premium; Harvest includes it on Enterprise. If your team signs in through Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Google, price the plan that includes SSO, not the entry plan.
  • Working offline: Toggl Track and Harvest let you keep working without a connection. Details are in the Offline mode row above.

Toggl Track: worth knowing

  • RemoteToggl Track does not take screenshots or monitor app usage in any of its apps, so remote staff are not surveilled. source
  • OfficeDesktop apps in offices with restricted internet (firewall/proxy) most commonly hit sync problems; the Windows app has proxy settings. source
  • SecurityOrganizations can enforce SSO-only login for their domain once an SSO profile (Premium or Enterprise) is approved. source

Harvest: worth knowing

  • SecurityWhen enabled, two-factor authentication is an account-wide sign-in requirement for everyone, and it is mandatory for accounts connected to Xero. source
  • RemoteAll Harvest data is stored in the U.S. (Google Cloud, with AWS backups), with no customer-selectable region. source
  • OfficeHarvest's Gusto payroll sync is only for US-based Gusto customers and must be run by an Administrator. source
