Every job we cover, and the software it takes

The 50 jobs small and mid-size teams ask about most, and the core software category for each. Pick any of them in the finder above to see tools and prices for your team.

How the finder works

1. The job decides the categories. Each job maps to the kinds of software that usually handle it, marked “You need this” or “Often added.” That mapping is our editorial assessment.

2. Verified prices do the rest. Every tool shown comes from HelpCompare’s open dataset: the vendor’s published entry price, recorded from its own pricing page and dated, costed for your team size.

3. Your must-haves sort the list. Tools that meet them (as the vendor states them) come first, then by cost. Nothing is ranked by payment: there are no affiliate links on HelpCompare.

4. Then get it approved. From any category, open a pre-filled decision brief to take the choice to whoever signs off.

Frequently asked questions

I don’t know what software I need. Where do I start?

Start with the job, not the product. Pick what you need to get done (for example, send invoices and get paid, or track projects and deadlines), add your team size, and the finder lists the kinds of software that job usually needs, with the tools we track in each and what they cost at your size.

How does the finder decide which software a job needs?

The link between a job and a software category is our editorial assessment, based on research into how small and mid-size teams describe these problems. The tools and prices come from HelpCompare’s verified dataset: each vendor’s published entry price, recorded from its own pricing page and dated.

How is the cost for my team calculated?

Only by arithmetic on published prices: a per-seat entry price multiplied by your team size (including any published seat minimum), or a flat entry-plan price. Quote-only and per-transaction pricing is labelled, not guessed. Higher tiers, add-ons and tax are not included.

Does HelpCompare rank or score the tools?

No. We publish no scores of our own and take no affiliate commissions. The finder lists tools that meet your must-haves first, then by published cost at your team size, and shows why each one is listed.

What if my job needs software you don’t cover?

The finder says so. Some jobs also need tools in categories we do not track yet, such as time tracking or password management; we list those gaps instead of guessing.

Can I share my plan?

Yes. The page address updates as you choose, so Copy link shares your exact plan. From any category you can also build a one-page decision brief to get the purchase approved.

From shortlist to switched

Built for the leader who owns the selection, answers for the spend, drives the rollout, and lives with the results. HelpCompare covers the whole decision, not just the first step.

He spent nine years as an engineer at HP, served as COO scaling a platform past 200,000 users, and ran Google’s $70M/year search syndication partnership at Alot.com. He has bought, trialled, integrated and cancelled more SaaS tools than he can count, and started HelpCompare because the real cost of switching tools is the part nobody covers.

“I’ve sat on both sides of the table: the agency recommending the tool and the client paying for it.”
