Bottom line Editorial assessment

Which is better for a small team, Toggl Track or Clockify?

Choose Clockify if price per seat, a free plan for up to 5 users, or a clock-in kiosk and GPS for hourly staff matter most; choose Toggl if you want planning and PTO in the same tool, no screenshots or location tracking, and SSO on Premium. Clockify’s paid plans are $3.99 to $11.99 a seat a month on annual billing; Toggl’s are $9 and $16 a user.

Heads up: Toggl now sells Toggl Track inside its unified Toggl plans (time tracking plus planning). Prices here are the ones new customers see on toggl.com/pricing, checked September 19, 2026. Existing Toggl Track accounts keep their current plans.

Quick verdict: Clockify is the cheaper tool at every tier: its paid plans run from $3.99 to $11.99 a seat a month on annual billing, against $9 and $16 for Toggl’s Starter and Premium, and its free plan covers 5 users against Toggl’s 3. Clockify also adds features Toggl deliberately leaves out: a shared clock-in kiosk from Basic, and GPS tracking and optional screenshots on Pro. Toggl’s plans include planning and capacity tools (timelines, PTO and flexible hours on Starter, profitability reports and project dashboards on Premium), and Toggl states it does not take screenshots or track location. Both put timesheet approvals and single sign-on on a higher plan: Premium on Toggl, Standard (approvals) and Enterprise (SSO) on Clockify.

Editorial assessment

How they actually differ

Both are timers first: start and stop from web, desktop, mobile or a browser extension, then report by client and project. The split is price, how far each goes into attendance and monitoring, and how much planning comes with the plan.

Price per seat

Clockify’s paid plans cost $3.99, $5.49, $7.99 and $11.99 a seat a month on annual billing (20% off monthly). Toggl’s cost $9 and $16 a user a month on annual billing, or $12 and $24 monthly, a saving Toggl puts at 33.3%. Every active or invited Clockify user takes a paid seat; on Toggl every member is a billed user.

Attendance and monitoring

Clockify can run as a time clock: a shared kiosk with PIN clock-in from Basic, attendance and overtime on Standard, and GPS tracking, kiosk photo capture and optional screenshots every 5 minutes on Pro. Toggl makes the opposite choice on purpose: it says it does not monitor employees, take screenshots, or record keystrokes, browsing history or location.

Planning and profitability

Toggl’s current plans add planning to tracking: task boards and estimates on Free, timelines, milestones, PTO and flexible hours on Starter, and labor costs, profitability reports, fixed-fee projects and project dashboards on Premium. Clockify puts budgets, forecasting, scheduling, expenses and labor-cost reports on Pro.

Billing clients

Clockify includes invoicing from tracked time and expenses on Standard and up, plus QuickBooks sync; its Xero invoice sync is a $4.99-a-month add-on. Toggl’s current plans page lists billable rates and profitability reports but no invoicing, so check whether your accounting tool will do the invoicing.

What this means for your team

  • Audit reports: both publish a SOC 2 report, and Toggl Track and Clockify also hold ISO/IEC 27001. Ask each vendor for the report under NDA before you sign; security reviews usually want the latest one.
  • Single sign-on: Toggl Track includes it on Premium; Clockify includes it on Enterprise. If your team signs in through Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Google, price the plan that includes SSO, not the entry plan.
  • Working offline: Toggl Track and Clockify let you keep working without a connection. Details are in the Offline mode row above.
  • Where your data lives: Clockify lets you choose US, EU, UK, Australia on Pro. This matters for teams hiring across the EU, UK or Australia.
  • In the office: Clockify: Clockify's kiosk turns a shared device into a clock-in/clock-out station (PIN from Basic, QR code from Standard, photo capture on Pro); kiosk-only 'limited' users are billed at a lower seat rate.
