WORKFLOW AUTOMATION · MIGRATION GUIDE

Switching from n8n to Zapier

Zapier cannot import n8n workflows — its importer accepts only Zapier’s own JSON. Moving means rebuilding each workflow as a Zap, and re-pricing it in tasks rather than executions.

Quick verdict: Export your n8n workflows as JSON so you have an exact record of every node, then rebuild each one as a Zap — Zapier’s Copilot, included on all plans, can draft Zaps from a description. Before you move, count the action steps in each workflow: Zapier bills every successful action as a task, so a workflow that is one n8n execution can be several Zapier tasks.

Why teams move from n8n to Zapier

    Easier for non-technical teams

Zapier’s linear builder and Copilot let people outside engineering build and maintain automations.

    Largest app catalogue

Zapier says it connects to 9,000+ apps, more than any other automation tool.

    Nothing to host

Zapier is fully managed — no servers, updates or concurrency limits to manage yourself.

    How the migration actually works

Price the move before you start: multiply each workflow’s monthly runs by its number of action steps to estimate Zapier tasks.

    StepWhat you do
1Export n8n workflowsDownload each workflow as JSON (or use the n8n CLI or API). Exports include credential names and IDs but not the secrets.
2Estimate your Zapier task volumeFor each workflow, multiply monthly runs by action steps. Triggers, filters, paths and formatter steps do not count as tasks.
3Pick a Zapier plan and tierProfessional starts at $19.99/mo annual for 750 tasks with 1 seat; Team starts at $69/mo annual for 2,000 tasks with 25 users.
4Rebuild each workflow as a ZapRecreate triggers and actions; use Paths and Filters for branching and Code by Zapier (1 task per run) for custom logic.
5Re-connect appsAuthenticate each app in Zapier; n8n credentials do not transfer.
6Run in parallel, then deactivate n8nCompare results for a few days, then deactivate the n8n workflows and, if self-hosted, decommission the server after backing it up.

What this path doesn’t do for you:

No import path exists in either direction, so every workflow is rebuilt. Complex n8n workflows with loops, code nodes or many branches can become many Zapier tasks per run, and Zapier’s Professional plan has a single seat. Keep your n8n JSON exports as documentation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can Zapier import n8n workflows?

No. Zapier’s import accepts only JSON files exported from Zapier, and only on Team and Enterprise accounts, so n8n workflows are rebuilt as Zaps.

Will Zapier cost more than n8n?

Often, for multi-step workflows: Zapier bills each successful action as a task, while n8n bills one execution per run. Short, low-volume workflows can cost about the same — both entry plans are about $20/mo on annual billing.

Do n8n credentials move to Zapier?

No. n8n exports include credential names and IDs, not the secrets, so every app is re-authenticated in Zapier.

Can Zapier help me rebuild workflows?

Zapier’s Copilot is included on all plans (with a daily message limit on Free) and can draft Zaps from a plain-language description.

How many people can use Zapier?

Professional has 1 seat, Team 25 and Enterprise unlimited. n8n includes unlimited users on every plan.
