Switching from Hootsuite to Buffer

Buffer has no Hootsuite importer, but Hootsuite exports its calendar to CSV and Buffer takes CSV bulk uploads. Most teams cut their bill sharply.

Quick verdict: Export Hootsuite’s content calendar and reports, reconnect each profile in Buffer, and bulk-upload future posts by CSV (up to 100 per channel per upload on paid plans; text and single-image posts only, not YouTube). Replace what Buffer does not do: a DM inbox, listening and ads.

Buffer focuses on planning, scheduling and analytics.

    Free AI assistant

Buffer’s AI Assistant is included on every plan.

    How the migration actually works

List what your team does in Hootsuite besides scheduling. Inbox, listening and ads have no Buffer equivalent.

    StepWhat you do
1Export your Hootsuite calendar and reportsIn Hootsuite, open the calendar and export scheduled and published content as CSV (up to 365 days, including approval history and comments). Export analytics reports (.pdf/.ppt on Professional, .csv/.xlsx on Advanced) and inbox data as CSV.
2Choose a Buffer planEssentials for one person; Team ($10 a channel, annual) for several users and approvals.
3Reconnect each social profileConnect every network account to the new tool and re-authorise it; tokens do not transfer between vendors.
4Bulk-upload future postsReformat the calendar CSV to Buffer’s template and upload per channel; video, carousel and YouTube posts must be scheduled by hand.
5Set up approvals and accessOn Team, set access levels and approval workflows.
6Replace inbox and ads workflowsDecide where DMs, listening and ads will be handled before cancelling Hootsuite.

What this path doesn’t do for you:

No importer exists either way. Buffer’s CSV upload handles text and single-image posts only. Hootsuite’s inbox, listening and ads features have no Buffer equivalent.

    Before you cut over

    • You have single sign-on in Hootsuite but we found none documented for Buffer. Plan how people will sign in, and how you will remove leavers, before cut-over.

Checked September 19, 2026 against each vendor’s own trust center, help docs and app pages. Hover or tap “source” to see the exact wording we relied on. “Not published” means we could not find the vendor saying it on its own site — it doesn’t mean the feature is missing. Frequently Asked Questions

    Can Buffer import from Hootsuite?

Not directly. Export Hootsuite’s calendar to CSV and use Buffer’s bulk upload.

    What will I lose?

A DM inbox, social listening and ads management, which Buffer says it does not offer.

    How much will I save?

For three users and five channels, about $297 a month on Hootsuite Standard against $50 on Buffer Team (annual billing).

Will my analytics history come with me?

No. Analytics history stays with the old tool; the new one starts collecting from the day you connect each profile. Export the reports you need first.
