How they actually differ

Both are template-first design tools for people who are not full-time designers: social posts, flyers, presentations, short videos and ads, with real-time collaboration and AI generation built in.

Price per person

Adobe Express Teams is an annual subscription billed monthly at $7.99 a person, with at least 2 seats. Canva Business is $250 a person a year or $25 a month, with no seat minimum and up to 100 seats bought online. Canva Pro is a one-person plan.

AI

Canva meters AI as a monthly allowance of uses (up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra on Business) across Magic Studio tools, Canva AI chat and video. Adobe Express uses Firefly generative credits (250 a person a month on Teams) and says Firefly is designed to be commercially safe; Adobe offers IP indemnity for Firefly output on select Enterprise plans, and Canva on Enterprise with 100 or more seats.

Moving between them

Adobe Express imports Canva designs downloaded as PDF or PPTX and turns them into editable files. Canva has no Adobe Express importer; export from Express as PDF or PPT and use Canva’s PDF or PowerPoint import.

What this means for your team

  • Audit reports: both publish a SOC 2 report, and Canva and Adobe Express also hold ISO/IEC 27001. Ask each vendor for the report under NDA before you sign; security reviews usually want the latest one.
  • Single sign-on: Canva includes it on Enterprise; Adobe Express includes it on Enterprise. If your team signs in through Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Google, price the plan that includes SSO, not the entry plan.
  • Working offline: Canva works offline only in part; Adobe Express doesn’t document an offline mode. Details are in the Offline mode row above.
  • Where your data lives: Canva lets you choose US, EU on Enterprise; Adobe Express lets you choose US, EU, Japan on Enterprise. This matters for teams hiring across the EU, UK or Australia.

Canva: worth knowing

  • OfflineOffline designs stay on the device where you enabled them. The iOS and iPad apps do not support offline editing, so plan for laptops or Android devices when travelling. source
  • RemoteCanva Business bills pay-as-you-grow: you pay only for invited members who accept. Monthly plans adjust at renewal; annual plans are billed quarterly for members added. source
  • SecurityCustomer-chosen data residency (US or EU) is limited to Enterprise, Campus and District plans; existing data can take 30 days or more to migrate. source
  • SecurityCanva Shield indemnification, including AI output indemnity, applies only to Enterprise customers with more than 100 seats. source

Adobe Express: worth knowing

  • SecurityContent is stored in the regional data store assigned when an admin provisions the user, and stays there whatever the user's location. For distributed teams, region depends on provisioning, not travel. source
  • RemoteTeams and Enterprise include 24x7 technical support in multiple languages, with a dedicated line for admins. source
  • SecurityExpress for enterprise records a content log of creation, read, update, sharing and deletion events, with user ID and IP address, viewable by admins for 90 days. source
  • RemoteAll plans, Free included, support real-time co-editing and commenting on shared designs. source
