BUSINESS BACKUP · MIGRATION GUIDE

Switching from Carbonite to IDrive

IDrive cannot import Carbonite backups. Pick an IDrive bundle, install it on each device and run a fresh backup before Carbonite lapses.

Quick verdict: Choose IDrive Team for your computer count, or Business if you back up servers, install IDrive on each device, finish the first backup and test a restore. Then stop Carbonite from renewing; it keeps data for 30 days after a subscription lapses.

Why teams move from Carbonite to IDrive

    More storage

Team includes 5 TB with 5 computers.

    Monthly or annual billing

Team is $11.99 a month on monthly billing or $9.99 on annual.

    Broader coverage

Linux, NAS, servers and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace backup.

    How the migration actually works

IDrive’s first-year promotion ends at renewal; budget for the standard price.

    StepWhat you do
1Take stockList every computer, server and NAS you back up and how much data each holds, so you can pick the right plan and storage.
2Choose an IDrive planPick a Team bundle that covers your computer count and storage, or Business if you back up servers; add users and groups in the dashboard.
3Install IDrive on each deviceInstall the IDrive app on each computer or server and set the encryption type (default or private key) at setup.
4Run the first backupThe first backup of each computer uploads everything again and can take days on a slow connection; schedule it before you cancel the old plan.
5Test a restoreRestore a few files and one full folder from the new service to confirm it works.
6Keep the old service runningDo not cancel until the new service has completed a full first backup of every computer and you have tested a restore. Carbonite restores in its app or at account.carbonite.com; US customers can order a Courier Recovery drive for $175.99 per computer. After a subscription lapses, Carbonite keeps data for 30 days.

What this path doesn’t do for you:

Carbonite versions do not move. Servers need IDrive Business or the $5 per server Team add-on.
