Switching from Clover to Shopify POS

Shopify’s Store Migration app imports products from Clover’s CSV exports. The harder part is the Clover contract, because Clover hardware cannot be used with Shopify.

Quick verdict: Check your Clover agreement for remaining hardware payments and termination fees first. Then export Clover’s full item list and customer CSV and import them with Shopify’s Store Migration app (early access) or CSV import, set inventory per location, and pair Shopify readers.

Why teams move from Clover to Shopify POS

    One catalogue across channels

Shopify runs the online store and the shop from one admin.

    Your own devices

The POS app runs on your iPhone, iPad or Android device; the reader is $49.

    Flexible billing

Shopify plans bill monthly or yearly.

    How the migration actually works

Check your Clover agreement before you switch: hardware on a 36-month subscription is non-cancelable, termination fees vary by provider, and Clover devices will not work with another processor.

    StepWhat you do
1Review your Clover agreementCheck your Clover agreement before you switch: hardware on a 36-month subscription is non-cancelable, termination fees vary by provider, and Clover devices will not work with another processor.
2Export your Clover items and customersOn the Clover web dashboard, export items to a spreadsheet from Inventory, and the customer list as CSV from Customers (not from the device). Clover exports only a full item list.
3Choose a Shopify planBasic $29, Grow $79 or Advanced $299 a month (annual), plus POS Pro at $89 a location where needed.
4Import with Store MigrationUpload the Clover export in Shopify’s Store Migration app (early access); otherwise use CSV import.
5Set inventory per locationStock by location does not import; count or import it per location.
6Replace restaurant workflowsIf you used Clover’s table service features, check what replaces them: Shopify POS lists none.

What this path doesn’t do for you:

Clover hardware cannot be reused. Restaurant features (tables, tabs, bill splitting) have no Shopify POS equivalent, and inventory by location does not import.
