How we make money

We earn commission from filing services

If you use one of the formation or registered agent services we link to, they pay us a referral fee. That's the entire business model. We don't sell ads and we don't sell your details.

What that money does not buy

• It doesn't change the state data. Fees and deadlines come from the state, not from anyone who pays us.
• It doesn't buy a ranking. No company can pay to appear higher, be recommended, or have a competitor removed.
• It doesn't stop us saying "do it yourself". Filing directly with your state is almost always cheapest, and we link to that form on every state page — even though we earn nothing when you use it.

The conflict, named

We get paid when you use a paid service, and we tell you that you often don't need one. That's a real tension. We resolve it by giving you the state's own number and the state's own link first, and putting the paid option after — which is the opposite order to most sites in this category.

Who pays us

We keep a current list of every company we have a commercial relationship with. If a service isn't on it, we have no financial interest in whether you use them.

This is required by the FTC, and it's also just the right way to run a site whose only real asset is being believable.
